Who remembers the halcyon days of Luxuria?

Who remembers those glorious hazy crazy days back when Luxuria was a real physical world radio station with real DJ's? Who remembers those wild and boozy years when Bill Clinton was the President and Luxuria was rolling in internet boom cash? Who remembers the sultry siren seductive voice of Marianne Ferrari? The way-out wacky shows of Byron Werner? The guilty decadence of the Millionaire? If you remember like I do, please post your anecdotes here.

Chat Room Follies

Back when Lux was young, it was as much about the people as it was the music. The chat room (coupled with the webcam stream) was the place to be. There were many days when I logged on when I got to work in the morning, stayed there until I left for home, then logged in when I got home and stayed there again until I fell asleep. You felt "connected" to the station then... not only the DJ's but the other regular posters. I see some of the old familiar screennames still posting, but there's nothing like real-time conversations with other fans of the music and the station. I even booked a ticket from Philly to LA for the big party, but never made the flight. I still wish I had gotten to meet Val, Mill, Eric, Chuck, and all the others who built the station. And Happy Birthday to Lux5000.

::: raises hand, jumps around ::: I DO I DO I DO!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, like it was yesterday. Wait. You mean it WASN'T yesterday???????? o_0
ZOMGDebbie.....

I started lurking around the edges about 2 or 3 months after the startup, and kicked myself mightily that I wasn't able to make the big party in the old studios (I *did* get some outside shots of the place after it had passed on, but that's another sad story).... I, too, like ArtFart, stumbled across the Oasis of Splendor and was hooked. HOW hooked? Well, I'm still here, ain't that enough???? =X>D= The ladies drew me in, but the music keeps me here.

My sincerest thanks (no, really) to all those behind-the-mic and behind-the-scenesters without whom none of this would've been possible. You rock the sox off my world, on a continuous basis. Ten more years!!!!!!!!!!!!!

aloha from SurfLounge

I sure do miss getting online with all you crazy Lux kats and kittens. Really dug everyone sharing cocktail recipes, especially when the fixins were scarce. Here's one saved during LG's show years ago: *THE TRAILER TRAMP* from “Neko” --One 12-oz can of RC Cola, chilled OR warm depending on how fast you need a buzz (a worthy substitute is Sam's Cola, a fine product which may be purchased at your local Wal-Mart, or any good cheap generic cola) --Two shots of really cheap vodka --One shot of cheap triple sec (You're going for cheapness here, so save the Grey Goose or Stoli for another time. RC is the official hillbilly cola choice of Neko, but Sam's does well in a pinch and besides, RC isn't available every place. Forget about ice. Ice wastes valuable space in the can which could otherwise be taken up by liquor.) MIXING: Empty out about 3 oz. (one medium-sized swallow) of cola from the can so's you can get the booze in, then add the vodka & triple sec and give it a good stir with the handle of a fork or something. Drink it straight out of the can. You can add more booze as the level gets low in the can. You can use a funnel if you're really serious about measuring with a shotglass, but it's best to just pour your liquor straight from the bottle to the can and guesstimate how much you put in. Measuring with a shotglass wastes valuable drinking time. Besides, it's not too difficult: when the can's totally full, then you have enough liquor in it. The important thing is to drink it straight from the can because that is what makes a Trailer Tramp really special and also, you can walk around in the morning with one and everybody can pretend that you're not drinking yet.

Hey Klondike!!!!!

Yeah I remember all of that. It's a great big beautiful tomorrow we would all tell ourselves. And now????!!!! TOO MANY CROCS!!!!!

Time goes by fast wen you're having fun, doesn't it?

I first discovered Luxuria only a month or two after the launch. I'd recently started a new job where I'd inherited a private office previously used by someone doing multimedia stuff...and he'd left behind a terrific Altec speaker setup. "Net radio" wasn't entirely new, nor I to it--one day while working on something essential but boring I looked through the "station list" included in Realplayer at the time and found the listing for Luxuria. I watched the home page open with those interminable "horizontal curlique" animated GIFs and the proclamation that I'd found my "online oasis of splendor". I was to say the least, intrigued. Then I clicked "Listen" and heard Peggy Lee back-to-back with Astroslut. After a while I found the studio cam page and discovered the voice saying all those funny things between tracks belonged to a pretty lady named Val Myers. From then on, I was hooked. In the time since, I've learned more about music than I ever knew before, and made "some of the best friends I've never met"--and a few that I have. All the listening and chatting and booty-shaking and laughing and crying we've done together in cyber-land has been a remarkable experience, and here's hoping the festivities will go on for a long, long time. Oh, yeah...the first time the "Ballroom Organ" track from Disney's "Haunted Mansion" came on, I couldn't resist cranking the volume a bit, and it attracted a bit of attention. With that fancy speaker set-up, the bass notes made people down the hall think we were having an earthquake. Misery may love company, but company doesn't love misery.

Azalea on Sunday Night

Well, back then, I was pan,...:P My first time, was with Azalea, it was a Sunday night..like tonight(spooky). I asked her to moon the cam, she drew a 'lil picture of a moon and held it up to the camera, putting me quickly, in my rightful place. Val Myers in the afternoon, now what could be better? Maybe a Val Myers action figure? Kaci Christian had Dudley Moore's lady on, Susan Anton. Man, that show kept me tumescent for weeks. You get the idea, Luxuria has always been and will always be about the women. Tee & Sea, Marianne... sweet. Oh yeah, the music ain't too shabby either. Thanks Chuck & Mill you two are the godfathers. Happy birthday Luxotron 5000(no salty palaver from me, no sir). "Grey", the evil presence(ever lurking behind the scenes), deserves a thanks too. My Jobim/ Sinatra download could only have been done with your help. It prolly is my favourite rekkid. If I left anyone else out, apologies, Luxuria is really one of lifes treasures.

I remember like it was just ten years ago. The Mag 7 list; 'Matto, Caldo, Soldi, Morto, Girotondo'; The Mil and Chuck interviewing Vic Mizzy who complained that all music these days is sung by boys who seem angry at their mothers; Eric hosting a Christmas show with his dad, .... Happy Anniversary on Sunday, Chuck.

Who remembers the halcyon days of Luxuria?

We're as physical as we were back in 2000!
I remember Kaci Kristian, Veronica Vinyl,  Fugly The Clown, Prickle, Tea and Sea,  Jim Dunfrund, Lolita, .. and behind the scenes Mr. Marty Dolginoff and Mr. Guy Benoit.

My my my...

Did ya have to not only remember Kaci Christian, but remember her FIRST?

(Rev. Mo was the REAL looker)

Long Long ago

I'm stationed in Yellowknife NWT as a flight officer. I remember the Powerful Feelings with Val Myers show and Marianne reading us poetry in the mornings. They brightened up what is often a dark and boring (not to mention)goddamned cold posting. Play Kinky Boots one more time Val! Where's Disco Trash? Howard_Roark
